I believe the world is made of materials first.

Not in the reductive way people sometimes mean it—an argument for practicality, for the measurable, for what can be proven. I mean it in the devotional way: the world is a library of substances that hold their own intelligence. Paper knows how to wrinkle and forgive. Ink knows how to bloom and stain, how to pull itself into a line that feels like a decision. Thread knows how to insist. Light knows how to refuse you until you stop trying to force it. Shells know the mathematics of protection, the geometry of patience, the way an interior can become a pearl-smooth argument against panic.

I don’t think wonder is a vague emotion. I think wonder is a skill. A practice. A stance you take toward the ordinary until it stops being ordinary.
